Drive America’s Highways with us as we take a cruise along 11 miles of U.S. Route 412 through Paragould, Arkansas — a stretch that blends suburban convenience with a bit of small-town Delta charm.
We begin this segment of U.S. 412 on the east side of Paragould, at the junction with U.S. 412 Business (East Kingshighway). As the mainline route heads south from here, it curves smoothly to form the southern edge of Paragould’s city limits. This initial stretch offers quick access to residential neighborhoods and local businesses, but it’s also a well-used bypass for those heading west toward Walnut Ridge or east toward the Missouri state line. Early on, the highway intersects with Arkansas Highway 69, providing a north-south connector into central Paragould. Shortly thereafter, U.S. 412 meets U.S. Route 49, a major north-south route that links Paragould to Jonesboro to the south and Piggott to the north.
Past U.S. 49, U.S. 412 begins its gradual arc northwest before straightening out near the intersection with Arkansas Highway 358. At this point, the route begins trending more north-northwest, and the urban density starts to thin out. The final few miles of this segment pass by light industrial areas and rural patches, offering a transition from Paragould’s suburban edges back into the open fields that characterize this part of the Arkansas Delta.
The highway bends west again as it approaches another junction with U.S. 412 Business on the city’s west side — a loop that essentially brackets the downtown core. It’s at this second intersection with US-412B where our route around Paragould comes to an end. From here, the mainline route continues west toward Walnut Ridge, while the business loop dives back into Paragould proper for those who prefer a closer look at the historic downtown.
While this may not be the most scenic segment of U.S. 412, it serves as a critical corridor for both local and regional traffic. The route efficiently links the city’s eastern and western edges, connecting Paragould to the broader transportation network of northeastern Arkansas. And for travelers looking to stretch their legs, there are plenty of quick stops along the way — from local diners to parks and retail areas — especially near the intersection with U.S. 49.
