Kentucky Highway 676: Frankfort

If you’re looking to experience one of Frankfort’s most useful local connectors, Kentucky Highway 676—better known to locals as the East-West Connector—should be on your list. This four-mile stretch slices right through the heart of Kentucky’s capital city, linking up neighborhoods, government complexes, and scenic river views, all in just a few short minutes behind the wheel.

We kick things off at the intersection with Kentucky 420, right near the edge of downtown Frankfort and the state’s bustling government district. Heading northeast, the route quickly gives us a front-row seat to the Kentucky River as we cross a major bridge—don’t miss the views, especially in the morning or evening when the light hits the water just right. Immediately after the river, the road takes a gentle curve east near the junction with KY-1659, making this a pleasant and visually interesting drive rather than a simple point-A-to-B connector.

For much of the next couple miles, KY-676 carves its way east through wooded hillsides and neighborhoods on the southern edge of Frankfort. If you’re the type who likes to check out a city’s quieter corners, this is the place: the route stays close to residential areas, but it’s never far from key local destinations. Just off the highway, you’ll find easy access to Capitol View Park—great for a quick walk, some time on the playground, or just soaking in the views of Frankfort’s iconic State Capitol dome off in the distance. There’s also quick access to shopping and dining options, with small local eateries and chains dotted along both the start and end of the highway.

Continuing east, KY-676 serves as the gateway to Frankfort’s major commercial corridors. The drive wraps up as we turn onto U.S. Highway 60, just a stone’s throw from several shopping centers, hotels, and chain restaurants that make this area a convenient spot for travelers and locals alike. Whether you’re commuting, running errands, or just taking in the sights of Kentucky’s capital, Highway 676 does a great job tying everything together.
