East Sardis Road: Sardis to East End

Leaving the quiet community of Sardis behind, East Sardis Road stretches eastward for a brief but scenic 5-mile drive through the rolling terrain of southern Pulaski County, Arkansas. While it’s not a major highway, this two-lane route offers a pleasant shortcut between Sardis and East End, blending rural charm with easy access to more developed areas. If you’re looking for a peaceful connector that doesn’t feel too remote, East Sardis Road strikes just the right balance.

We begin our journey at the intersection with North Sardis Road, just south of the larger Little Rock metro area. Sardis itself is a small unincorporated community, but it serves as a quiet jumping-off point for those headed toward East End or even farther north toward Interstate 30. The first portion of East Sardis Road rolls gently through open countryside, with farmland and pine woods alternating along the roadside. You’ll see some residential pockets, but overall, it’s a low-traffic, pastoral setting—ideal for a relaxing Sunday drive or a scenic alternative to the busier highways nearby.

As we head east, the road continues in a straight shot before gradually curving northeast. This transition occurs near the intersection with Chicot Road—a notable landmark where the route begins to take on more of a suburban feel. Chicot Road itself is a local north-south thoroughfare that offers connections toward both Sardis and areas south of Little Rock, so it’s a helpful waypoint if you’re planning a longer journey. Past this junction, the scenery begins to shift slightly. You’ll start to notice more homes, businesses, and even a few churches dotting the roadside as we enter the East End area.

East End is a census-designated place that blends rural traditions with suburban growth. Though not incorporated as a city, East End functions like a small town, with schools, local eateries, and services spread out along its main roads. East Sardis Road ends here, at its junction with Arkansas Highway 367—a significant north-south route that parallels US-167 and offers a direct path north to Little Rock or south toward Sheridan. From this point, you can continue your trip in several directions depending on your destination, making East Sardis Road a practical feeder for regional travel.

While the route may be short, it’s not without charm. Drivers will enjoy the subtle elevation changes, shaded curves, and the glimpse into Arkansas’ semi-rural lifestyle. If you’re into photography or simply enjoy roadside scenery, keep an eye out for classic barns, distant ridgelines, and the occasional field of wildflowers in the warmer months. This drive is particularly pleasant in the spring and fall when the foliage adds a splash of color to the experience.

East Sardis Road might not be a headline-grabber, but it serves its role well—connecting two growing communities while offering a peaceful and efficient way to travel east of Sardis. For locals, it’s a vital connector; for travelers, it’s a scenic detour worth exploring.
