Hop in with us as we travel 9 miles east along Texas State Highway 183—also known as Airport Freeway—starting in northeast Fort Worth and making our way through Hurst and Bedford before ending just outside Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Euless. This stretch of TX-183 may not be the longest in Texas, but it’s an essential connector in the Metroplex, linking Fort Worth with the airport and multiple state highways along the way.
We begin our journey at the interchange with Interstate 820 on the edge of Fort Worth. This busy loop highway wraps around the city and provides access to a number of major routes in the region. Heading east, TX-183 quickly becomes a wide, heavily trafficked freeway with multiple lanes in each direction—often buzzing with commuters, airport travelers, and delivery vehicles crisscrossing the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Within just a few miles, we enter the city of Hurst, one of the many mid-cities between Dallas and Fort Worth. Though the freeway is our focus, there’s no shortage of places to stop along the way. Just off the freeway in Hurst, you’ll find Northeast Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the region, and a central retail hub that attracts shoppers from both nearby suburbs and farther-flung areas. There are also plenty of dining options just off the exits, from fast food to sit-down Tex-Mex favorites.
Continuing east, we pass through Bedford, a compact but well-developed suburb that blends residential neighborhoods with business parks and hotels. At this point in the drive, we encounter the major interchange with State Highway 121, which merges with TX-183 in what locals often refer to as the “Airport Freeway Corridor.” This stretch can be dense with traffic at peak hours, but it’s one of the most direct routes for reaching both DFW Airport and the northern suburbs like Grapevine and Lewisville.
As we enter Euless, the airport’s presence becomes much more tangible. You’ll start seeing signage for various DFW terminals, rental car return areas, and exit ramps for terminals and service roads. This area is a hotspot for hotels, gas stations, and long-term parking services catering to travelers. A short detour from the freeway could take you to Bear Creek Golf Club, or for aviation fans, to the CR Smith Museum, which is just a few miles southeast and dedicated to the history of American Airlines.
Our route wraps up just before the toll booths at the entrance to DFW Airport, at the split where TX-183 transitions to State Highway 97 Spur. This short connector dives directly into the airport grounds, handling a constant flow of traffic bound for terminals and cargo facilities.
One thing to note: due to congestion, this video includes segments where traffic slowed to a crawl or even a full stop. To keep things moving for viewers, those sections have been sped up—but anyone familiar with the DFW Metroplex knows this kind of delay is par for the course during peak travel times. Fortunately, the improvements and expansion projects in recent years have made this corridor much more manageable than it used to be.
Whether you’re a local heading to the airport or a traveler catching your first glimpse of North Texas from the road, TX-183 from Fort Worth to Euless is a vital stretch of the Metroplex—and a route that says a lot about the energy and motion of the region.
